Brave moss - what is it and why did he conquer the world of decoration?

The moss of the Brave, also known as Cladonia Ranigiferina, is a unique genre of lichen, which in recent years has gained immense popularity in interior decoration. This is not a classic moss, but a lichen consisting of a fungus and algae living in symbiosis. Its characteristic, fluffy structure reminiscent of small twigs and the ability to maintain flexibility after stabilization make it an ideal element in modern arrangements.

Where does the moss of Bravek come from and where did its name come from?

The moss of Brave (Cladonia raniferin) naturally occurs in the cool regions of the northern hemisphere, especially in the Scandinavian countries, Russia, Canada and Alaska, where it creates extensive clusters in Tundra and Taiga. His Polish name "Chrobotek" refers to the characteristic scratching sound, which it makes under the feet in a dry state, while the Latin name "rankiferine" refers to reindeer, for which it is the basic source of food.

In the natural environment of the Brave, it creates extensive "carpets" covering the surface of the soil. It is extremely resistant to low temperatures and difficult climatic conditions , which allows it to survive in Arctic areas, where other plants are not able to develop.

Historically, Chrobotek had a great cultural importance for the peoples of the North. For Saams (formerly called Laplanders) he was not only an indirect source of food through reindeer breeding, but also used in folk medicine to treat infection and lung diseases.

It is worth noting that in Vikingmoss we acquire the Brave only from sustainable, legal sources, ensuring that our influence on the natural environment is minimal.

How is Brave's moss different from other types of moss?

The moss of Brave is different from traditional mosses in terms of biological structure, because it belongs to lichen, not bryophytes. While mosses such as cushion or flat are plants with a simple structure, the scratching is a symbiotic relationship of fungus and algae, which gives it a unique structure.

The most characteristic feature that distinguishes the scratching from other types of moss is its bushy, beading form. Unlike typical mosses that form compact, low rugs, the scratches grow vertically, creating fluffy structures resembling a miniature forest.

Our customer experience shows that this unique texture is the most frequently mentioned advantage when choosing a scratching for interior design. The impression of softness and spaciousness it offers is impossible to obtain using classic mosses.

It is also worth mentioning the endurance - the stabilized scratching maintains flexibility and does not crumble, unlike other mosses that may become stiff and brittle after the maintenance process.

The choice between the Chrobot is loose, in panels or frames depends mainly on the purpose of the decoration, available space and assembly skills. Each of these solutions has its own unique advantages and potential applications.

  • Chrobotek loosely gives the greatest creative freedom. It is ideal for people who want to create their own, unique compositions. Our experience shows that it works perfectly in creating irregular images, filling custom spaces or combining with other decorative elements.

What does the moss look like after 2 years on the wall?

Properly stabilized and properly placed moss of the Brave after 2 years retains its structure, flexibility and intensity of color, without watering or special care. This is one of the biggest advantages of this type of decoration, which has been confirmed by numerous Vikingmoss from 2022-2023.

Studies conducted on many installations performed by our company have shown that in 95% of cases there were no significant changes in the appearance and properties of moss after 24 months of use. However, it is crucial to follow a few basic rules.

The most important factors affecting the durability of the Brave are:

  • Air humidity (optimal: 40-60%)
  • Soldering (avoiding direct, intense sunlight)
  • The quality of stabilization (the process used by Vikingmoss guarantees durability)

It is worth emphasizing that the moss of Brave does not require any care - it should not be watered, sprayed or fertilized. The only maintenance is occasional vacuuming with a soft brush or compressed air.

Our clients particularly appreciate the fact that, unlike the living vegetable walls, installations from the Brave do not generate the cost of living, and their attractive appearance remains unchanged over the years.

What are the advantages of moss moss?

Stabilized moss of scratches does not require care, absorbs sounds, regulates air humidity, is hypoallergenic and durable, and at the same time is an ecological decorative element with exceptional aesthetic values.

One of the most important advantages confirmed by acoustic studies is the Chrobot's ability to absorb sounds. In tests carried out in office spaces, the moss walls reduced the noise level by 25-40%, significantly improving acoustic comfort.

Another advantage is the ability to regulate humidity. Although stabilized moss is not alive, it retains hygroscopic properties, absorbing excess moisture from the air and releasing it when the air becomes too dry.

From a health perspective, the material's hypoallergenicity is an important advantage. Thanks to the stabilization process, the moss does not secrete pollen or spores, which makes it a safe solution for allergy sufferers.

For designers and interior architects, the versatility of the Brave applications is particularly valuable. This material can be used in the form of:

  • Whole green walls
  • Company logos
  • Elements of visual information
  • Decorative accents in furniture
  • Independent artistic installations
