Moss installation is the process of installing stabilized moss plants on various surfaces to create decorative greenery elements in interiors. As part of our installation service, Vikingmoss offers comprehensive solutions from delivery, through surface preparation, to the final installation of moss panels on walls, ceilings, or as freestanding elements.
Vikingmoss installation offer
In addition to a wide selection of ornamental plants, Vikingmoss offer also includes the option of installing stabilized moss decorations. Our experience dates back to 2018, when we completed our first projects in Poland, and since then, we have perfected our installation techniques.
We offer a full range of moss installation services, from design consultation, through moss , to on-site installation. We offer various types of stabilized moss, including the most popular reindeer moss, cushion moss, and flat moss.
Installation of moss panels
Installing stabilized moss panels is a process that requires proper preparation and knowledge of mounting techniques. At Vikingmoss we most often use panels with standard dimensions of 50x50 cm or 100x100 cm, which can be combined to form larger compositions.
The basis for installation is proper surface preparation – it should be clean, dry, and degreased. Depending on the type of substrate, we use various mounting methods to ensure durability. Most often, we use specialized mounting adhesives or screws.
The process of installing moss panels involves several steps.
- First, we take accurate measurements of the area and prepare a design.
- We then fit the panels, cutting them to the appropriate dimensions if necessary.
- The next step is to apply mounting glue to the back of the panel or prepare the mounting frame to which the panels will be attached.
Our company's proven installation methods ensure long-term durability. For example, one of our first projects, completed in 2019 in an office building in Warsaw, still impresses with its appearance, requiring no repairs or maintenance.
Installing moss on the wall
Installing moss on a wall is the most popular type of installation we implement at Vikingmoss . Moss walls provide a striking backdrop in reception areas, conference rooms, and relaxation areas in offices and hotels.
- The standard wall mounting process begins with accurate measurements and design preparation.
- Then we mark the mounting points on the wall and prepare the surface – clean it and prime it if necessary.
- The next step is to prepare the moss panels, which may require cutting to the appropriate dimensions.
- Depending on the size of the installation, we install from the bottom up or from the center outward. This approach ensures the best panel fit and aesthetic appearance. For larger projects, we often use a modular system, which simplifies transport and assembly.
- Once installation is complete, we conduct a quality check to ensure that all panels are properly attached and that the visual effect meets the design specifications.
Installing moss on the ceiling
Installing moss on a ceiling is one of the most effective, yet demanding , solutions. At Vikingmoss we've completed dozens of such installations in offices, hotels, and public spaces, developing effective mounting methods.
- A key aspect of ceiling installation is proper structural security . Due to the nature of gravity, we recommend using a combination of adhesive and mechanical fasteners.
- Most often, we use lightweight aluminum or wooden frames to which we attach panels with moss.
- For suspended ceilings, we use special mounting systems that integrate with the existing ceiling structure.
- In the case of concrete ceilings, it is necessary to use expansion bolts and anchors that will ensure stable mounting of even heavy panels.
Ceiling installation requires precise planning , especially when it comes to lighting and ventilation systems. Our experience shows that it's worth planning the installation of the ceiling at the interior design stage, allowing for optimal integration of all elements.

What are the most common mistakes when installing moss that should be avoided?
The most common mistakes when installing moss include improper surface preparation, using inappropriate adhesives, and improper panel assembly. At Vikingmoss , based on hundreds of completed installations, we've identified key issues to avoid.
- The first common mistake is installing on a damp or dirty surface. The surface must be completely dry and free of dust, grease, and remnants of old paint or wallpaper. Failure to follow this recommendation will result in weakened adhesion and, over time, the decorative elements falling off.
- Another mistake is using inappropriate adhesives. Water-based acrylic adhesives can damage the moss' structure, so we recommend specialized polymer-based assembly adhesives. In our experience, Mamut adhesives or those designed for decorative element installation work best.
- Another common mistake is improperly joining panels , which results in visible gaps or uneven surfaces. Accurate trimming and edge matching are crucial to achieving a seamless look. Our installation teams use precision cutting tools and joining techniques that eliminate this problem.
- Underestimating the weight of moss panels , especially in large ceiling installations, is another serious mistake. Larger installations require solid mechanical fastenings, not just gluing, which is especially important when installing on ceilings.
How to attach moss to different types of surfaces (e.g. smooth, rough)?
The method of attaching moss varies depending on the surface type – mounting adhesives work best for smooth walls, substructure frames are used for rough surfaces, and specialized two-component adhesives are used for glass and metal. Our extensive experience at Vikingmoss has allowed us to develop optimal solutions for every type of substrate.
On smooth surfaces, such as plasterboard or even painted walls, strong mounting adhesives . Apply them in dots to the back of the panel, spaced approximately 10-15 cm apart, then press the panel against the surface for approximately 30 seconds.
For rough surfaces, such as exposed brick walls or structural concrete, we recommend installing the panels using a subframe. A wooden or aluminum frame is attached to the wall using expansion bolts, and then the moss-covered panels are attached to the frame using staples, screws, or adhesive.
For particularly difficult surfaces, such as glass or metal, we use specialized two-component adhesives with high adhesion. In some cases, we prepare the surface by sanding it or using a primer to enhance adhesion.
For installation on concrete ceilings, we use a dual-mount system: adhesive mounting plus mechanical fastening using dowels and special brackets. This ensures maximum safety and durability of the installation.
Does installing moss require special tools or skills?
Installing moss requires basic carpentry tools and some manual skills, but it doesn't require specialized skills. At Vikingmoss we provide a complete installation kit for customers who choose to install it themselves, including all the necessary components.
Basic tools needed for moss installation include a tape measure, pencil, spirit level, moss trimmer, adhesive gun, screwdriver (for mechanical fasteners), and a ladder or platform for taller installations. For more advanced projects, a saw for cutting the substructure and a drill with appropriate bits are also useful.
The most important skills when installing moss are precision and patience. Accurate measurements and careful panel alignment determine the final visual effect. For larger surfaces, we recommend working in a two-person team, which significantly simplifies the installation process.
How to store moss before installation to avoid damaging it?
Proper storage of stabilized moss before installation is crucial to maintaining its aesthetic and durable properties. The moss should be stored in its original packaging, in a dry place with a moderate temperature (15-25°C). Avoid direct sunlight and high humidity, which can negatively affect the color and structure of the moss.
At Vikingmoss we carefully package our products to ensure proper protection during transport and storage. If you plan to install them later, we recommend leaving the moss in its original packaging until installation.
Our experience shows that moss should not be stacked on top of heavy items, as this can cause it to flatten. If short-term storage outside the packaging is necessary, it's best to stack the moss panels vertically, leaning them against a wall.
Storage temperature is also important – extreme conditions (below 5°C or above 30°C) can affect the structure of the moss and its color.
